Main page
CTN website opens with a two parts directory page (Community Directory and Private Directory), from which is possible to reach all organic unities of the Campus, in the language chosen. All the pages have links to the opening page and the pages of intermediate level. These links appear in the form: ".: Main » Hot Topics » Student Visits"
There are directed messages to people with special needs. These messages, hidden in the site, are only accessible by use of a text browser or voice synthesizer.
Support technologies
Accessibility features have been built into this website, accordingly to the W3C Accessibility Guidelines. These features are useful for individuals who have difficulty typing or using a mouse, are blind or have low vision, or who are deaf or have impaired hearing. For better compatibility, a CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) was applied to the homepage. Style sheets for screen and printer have been elaborated. Styles cohabit simultaneously.

To facilitate the access to all the sections of this homepage, common shortcut keys for all the pages of the same type have been constructed (keyboard key ALT + numerical keyboard key). The opening page and some pages of intermediate level, having a simpler format, only make use of the three first functionalities.

Help desk
You may have seen a pop up box that reads: "Did you notice the information bar?" or your information bar may show a shield & read: "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer. Click here for options". To eliminate it, see the instructions for Internet Explorer (IE) users: Information Bar.
Download a file to your computer disk
Several available documents are in a ZIP compact, due to their considerable size, thus allowing faster downloads. In the case documents have different types, they always appear identified with the correspondent icon (see table attached).
Here is how to download a file using Internet Explorer and Windows XP. If you're using a different browser such as Netscape Navigator or a different version of Windows, your screens may look a little different, but the same basic steps should work.
- Click on the download link for the document you want to download. You may be asked if you want to save the file or open it from its current location. If you are asked this question, select "Save.
- You will then be asked to select the folder where you want to save the program or file, using a standard "Save As" dialog box. It may help you to create a folder like "C:\Temp" for all of your downloads, but you can use any folder you'd like. The download will now begin. Your web browser will keep you updated on the progress of the download by showing a progress bar that fills up as you download.
- If you are downloading a .zip file, you will need to unzip it. Simply run the file and follow the instructions to install.
- After 3., you must edit the document. Examine the file extension (last three letters), to identify the appropriate application (see table);
- If you don't have any, you may use the alternative option (download and install it).
Type/Extension: | Icon/Opens with: | Alternative Application: |
---|---|---|
.DOC | MSFT Word | Microsoft Word Viewer |
Acrobat Reader | Adobe Acrobat Reader | |
.PPT | MSFT PowerPoint | Microsoft Powerpoint Viewer |
.XLS | MSFT Excel | Microsoft Excel Viewer |
.ZIP | Winzip | Winzip or another of the same type. |
Document format type
In case documents have different types, they always appear identified with the correspondent icon (see table attached). Documents having the (.wav) icon, also have an audible version (only possible to computers with multimedia speakers). The (.mpg) icon corresponds to a video file. Icons appearing in opening page (Directories), are used only for graphical purposes to identify sections.
Intranets and links
Some intranet links have private access, only available to those belonging to IST/CTN range of IP's. These private links present the (security) icon, the remaining ones present the (world) icon.
