PFC-MAT Project Plasma Facing Components - Materials: materials facing the plasma will be hit by a cloud of highly charged and neutrals particles depositing large quantities of energy and affecting their integrity. To understand the processes operating during these interactions we produce the materials which will be used in the fusion reactors and mimic in laboratory the effect of the plasma to test their behaviour.


W-Ta sintered by PPS at 1773 K, 60 Mpa. Fuzz: He forms a separate gas phase within the material just below the surface leaving walls of initial bubbles.

WBGM Project Wide Band Gap Materials: the group has been involved in research projects to investigate the damage build-up processes during ion irradiation and to test their performance as radiation detectors and LED's.
